The Significance of Homeschooling Resources

Homeschooling is the undertaking of a childā€™s education at home, as opposed to having him/her schooled in a public or private school. This is usually done by parents who make use of various homeschooling resources to aid them with the childā€™s tutelage.

There are many reasons why parents would want their child to be homeschooled. Some cite external factors like the suffering quality of education in schools around their area, differences in culture, bad influences, or a lifestyle that canā€™t accommodate the strict and regular routines of a typical public school. On the other hand, others cite that homeschooling would help the child achieve better academic results as a product of learning at his/her own pace. Whatever the reason is, homeschooling remains to be a popular and beneficial means of getting education.

A critical ingredient in effective homeschooling, however, is the availability of homeschooling resources for the student and teacher. Precisely because of the nontraditional learning environment, homeschooling is at the disadvantage of not having a standard set of materials as study aides. The quality of homeschool resources being used is therefore important to maintain; otherwise, the child runs at risk of getting insufficient or erroneous instructions that would slow down his/her academic development.

Fortunately, with prevalence of Internet, credible resources for homeschooling are relatively easy to come by. Additionally, states usually issue requirements for this type of learning system, so a parent or tutor has a standard basis for a formal curriculum. Homeschooling has gained so much popularity that different homeschooling methods have even developed to suit individual needs or preferences. These range from classical to computer-based, to textbook. There are many books and websites that detail the significance of each method, so a parent shouldnā€™t have too much difficulty in choosing and following a specific system.

For the parent whoā€™s tentative about schooling their child on their own, some resources available come as all-in-one curricula. These resources are entire packages that have comprehensive coverage on many subjects and even include books and materials. Though quite expensive, this system is very suitable for families who lack access to schools and shops. This resource is also good for those who are unsure of their homemade academic curriculum or simply want a combination of the standard educational system with the benefits of home.

Homeschooling is more than a mom in the living room teaching her child how to add. Though the scene is accurate in some aspects, it does little to highlight homeschoolingā€™s benefits. With this educational system, the parents direct the education of their children to the direction they feel will be best for his/her future. Using diverse and numerous homeschooling resources available, the entire homeschooling experience can actually have lesser limitations than traditional schooling.

What makes a man? Is it manners, the way he carries himself, or is it that he can recite platitudes in the drop of a hat? Classical homeschooling has a lot to recommend itself because it covers so many subjects, all varied in their own respects. Literature, law, languages, mathematics, and history are but a few subjects covered in a classical setting. The humanities or what we call liberal arts focuses on the development of the person to be a well-rounded individual.

There is nothing to be denied that great individuals are the result of a classical education. Partly because if they grew up far from the cities, they learned to study on their own and partly because there is superior knowledge learnt in the direct company of books and tutors. It also gives the child access to a more liberated setting by learning at their own pace and allowing them to come to their own conclusions.

There are stages called trivium which focuses on grammar, logic, and rhetoric and quadrivium which focuses on astronomy, arithmetic, music, and geometry. The Trivium is the foundation of classical education and thus bears more weight especially in the formative years. The modern interpretations of a classical education can include literature, government, Latin, Greek, history, art, and philosophy.

Classical homeschooling has more space in dispensing subjects to suit the child. That is not to say that the child is beleaguered by too much information. Rather, the child learns to integrate all his lessons for a more substantiated outlook in life and understands that knowledge is interconnected. Much of what the child learns is also systematic, where study begins with the ancients, the age of discovery, all the way to the modern period. Undoubtedly, the classical education has a more scholastic aptitude required because the student will study books and other lessons that is usually targeted to university students.

Much of a classical education is found in exclusive and private schools which cost quite a lot of money. While there are many who may not be able to send their kids to exclusive schools, the option of a classical education at home is more open and accessible to them. There are loads of sites that offer pre-made curriculums to parents. There are even websites that offer suggestions to visit particular places to enhance the learning experience.

Classical homeschooling is a good homeschooling alternative if you wish your child to have a well-rounded education. A firm grounding in the liberal arts always enhances oneā€™s outlook in life and colors all associations with it. Even more so, it will open the mind of the individual to the differences of each culture and in that mindset, appreciate and not discriminate. Another advantage is that a classical education will also develop a more scholastic approach to learning and give the child a more varied perspective on how the world has changed, is changing, and will change.
