1 – Litecoin
Litcoin was launched in year 2011, and it’s usually referred to Silver to Bitcoin gold. Its founder was Carlie Lee who is MIT graduate and worked in Google. Just like Bitcoin, Litecoin is also decentralized and open source platform that work without central authority. Litecoin is just like Bitcoin but Litecoin’s blockchain is much faster as compared to Bitcoin, and this is the reason why many people prefer Litecoin.
2 – Ethereum
Another open source and decentralized platform. It was launched in year 2015 and it allow Smart Contracts as well as Distributed Apps to be built and run with no downtime. It need specific cryptographic token known as Ether, according to core developers of Ethereum, it can be used for trading, securing or decentralizing anything. Ethereum experienced attack in year 2016 that saw currency to split in 2 parts, Ethereum classic and Ethereum. In race of leading crypto exchages, Ethereum comes on second after Bitcoin.
3 – Zcash
Zcash appears in year 2016, and describe itself as “Bitcoins are http, Zcash’s are https”. It promises extreme security, transparency and privacy to offer shielded transaction to allow users to transfer data in encrypted form.
4 – Dash
Dash is secretive version of Bitcoin and also known as Darkcoin because of its secretive nature. It is famous to offer expanded anonymity that allows to make transactions nearly impossible to track. It first appear in year 2014, since then, it experienced big fan following.
5 – Ripple
With capitalization of market of more than 1 billion dollars, Ripple is last in the list. It was launched in year 2012 and it offers, secure, instant and low cost transactions. Its consensus ledger does not need any mining. This features makes it different from Bitcoin and many other mainstream crypto exchanges.
Although Bitcoin is leader, but Litecoin to Dash and Ripple to Zcash, rivals are picking up their pace and growing every day. A time will come when they will lead to conventional money altogether.
